For Flaming Lips’ Love Songs, Eat Your Anatomically Correct Chocolate Heart Out

Don’t think for one minute that Super Bowl ad starring the Flaming Lips has tempered Wayne Coyne’s weirdness. If anything, the Hyundai commercial gave Coyne more money to do even more batshit stunts. Case in point: This Valentine’s Day, the Flaming Lips will release a compilation of their offbeat love songs, fittingly titled Songs of Love. Oh, the collection will only be available as a USB stick buried within an anatomically correct heart made out of 72 percent South American dark chocolate, Pitchfork reports. Because what else would you do for an encore to a gummy fetus than a gruesome chocolate heart stuffed with hazelnut mini whoppers and waffle cone crunch. You can purchase your very own Songs of Love heart for $60 at the Lips’ Womb Gallery in Oklahoma City. Full track list below, along with streams of the compilation’s bookending tracks, featuring Stardeath and White Dwarfs and select members of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, respectively.

But wait, there’s more! When the Flaming Lips released Embryonic in October 2009, they quickly followed it up two months later with their full-length version of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon. With the band’s excellent The Terror due out April 2, it appears as though Coyne and his heady fwends are planning to cover another band’s LP in its entirety: The Stone Roses. Stereogum has collected a ton of evidence that suggests the Flaming Lips, Stardeath and White Dwarfs, New Fumes, and all the other weirdo stoner-rock bands Coyne hangs out with in Oklahoma City are re-recording the Stone Roses’ debut album in the studio. Coyne himself wrote on Instagram that he was hoping to recruit Polica/Gayngs’ Channy Leaneagh to contribute vocals to the Roses’ “She Bangs the Drum.” There’s also this video below of the bands working on the “remake” in the studio.
