Foos Fight Coldplay Atop Charts

On this week’s Billboard charts, the No. 2 selling Foo Fighters are hot on the heels of No. 1 Coldplay. The Foo Fighters had their best opening week sales and chart position ever, selling 311,000 units of In Your Honor (read review). Coldplay still beat out Dave Grohl and co. in a squeaker, moving 323,000 copies of X&Y. Bafflingly enough, the Backstreet Boys cracked the top five with their first album in five years, Never Gone, which reached No. 3 this week and sold 290,000 copies.

In other chart movements, Alanis Morrisette’s new album — an acoustic version of her 1995 blockbuster Jagged Little Pill — managed to sell over 50,000 copies, despite only being available at Starbucks stores. It placed at No. 17 on the charts with skim, no whip, an extra shot, and a fist-full of Splenda.
