Dave Grohl and wife Jordyn Blum just had their third daughter together, so this ranks as the second-most exciting Grohl news of the day, but it’s a biggie nonetheless: Foo Fighters have unleashed a star-studded trailer for their upcoming HBO show, Sonic Highways. The three-minute clip offers a glimpse into the eight-episode documentary series, which details the making of the Foos’ forthcoming eighth album (also titled Sonic Highways), an eight-song effort that was put together in eight different studios in — you guessed it — eight different cities.

As seen above, the video features a voice-over from Grohl, who describes the project as “a musical map of America” and “a love letter to the history of American music.” Many famous talking heads crop up — Steve Albini, Butch Vig, Chuck D, Rick Rubin, the Beastie Boys’ Mike D, LL Cool J, Macklemore, and Dolly Parton all appear in the video, along with President Barack Obama — and shout-outs to different cities across the U.S. (Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, New Orleans, Nashville, D.C., and, of course, Seattle) abound. So, yeah, it’s a much meatier preview than that scream-y snippet of music the Foo Fighters shared a few weeks back.

Sonic Highways the show debuts on HBO on Friday, October 17 at 11 p.m. EST (perhaps it will force us to update our list of the Best Musical Moments From TV’s Latest Golden Age?), while Sonic Highways the album drops on November 10. Pre-orders of the LP are currently available through iTunes.
