Foo Fighters Debut New Song at White House

Sure, the economy’s still in crisis, Iran’s a mess, and Osama Bin Laden’s still at large. But on some days — damn, it feels good to be President. Like when the Foo Fighters play your backyard BBQ and premiere new music.

Dave Grohl led his band through a short set on the White House’s South Lawn, performing before President Obama and 1,200 invited active military troops and their families at a USO-sponsored 4th of July party. On the setlist was “Wheels,” one of two brand new Foo Fighters tunes that the band recorded in the studio with producer Butch Vig for inclusion on a greatest hits collection planned for release this November.

A relatively straightforward, feedback-free rocker, “Wheels” reminds us of the docile, faithful cover of Wings’ “Band on the Run” that the Foos recorded for 2007’s rather awesome BBC Radio 1 40th anniversary collection.

Check out some fan video of “Wheels” below — who knew regular Joes could film anything inside the White House grounds? — and tell us what you think in the comments section.
