Flaming Lips Will Bring Anatomical Chocolate to More Record Stores

Flaming Lips, Record Store Tour, chocolate

In December, Flaming Lips main man Wayne Coyne announced he’d be touring record stores to sell a green-vinyl reissue of the Oklahoma psych rockers’ 1984 debut EP, The Flaming Lips 1st EP. The record came with a chocolate skull, and in what appeared to be the brain of that skull was a golden coin allowing its bearer entry to any Flaming Lips headlining concert in the world. Or, as SPIN’s Chris Martins put it, “Eat a Skull for Flaming Lips’ 1984 Reissue, a Brain for Concert Tickets.

Mmm, more brains: Coyne has revealed he’ll be traveling store to store once again, and once again he’ll be signing copies of the chocolate-bedecked musical confection. The latest Lips “Record Store Tour” starts at New York’s Other Music on February 7 and makes a couple of stops along the East Coast until ending up at Baltimore’s Sound Garden on February 11. That golden coin could come in handy soon, as the band has multiple dates already scheduled this year, including alongside Pussy Riot and Madonna at an Amnesty International concert on February 5 in Brooklyn.

The skull, the press release points out, is “anatomically correct and life-sized.” It comes from a band that has previously put out music through a gummy fetus, a gummy skull, and a chocolate heart. The band’s 2013 included Essential new album The Terror and the Ender’s Game-inspired Peace Sword EP.
