Flaming Lips Tease ‘Freak Night’ Concert Film With Boobs

flaming lips, freak night

The Flaming Lips are following their recent Human Head-Shaped Tumor radio broadcast with a more traditional release: Freak Night, a documentary that chronicles the Oklahoma City band’s free-to-the-public costume party-slash-oncert on October 26. The Lips have shared a five-minute preview of the movie — filmed by local production house Delo Creative at the Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheatre — that captures each individual member’s onstage entrance. One by one, multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd, drummer Kliph Scurlock, guitarist/keyboardist Derek Brown, and bassist Michael Ivins greet the audience at what was billed as “the largest costume party in the Midwest.” Finally, grenade-wielding frontman Wayne Coyne appears, decked out in his usual gray suit and hamster ball. Waiting for the lead Lip, though, is a woman crowdsurfing in her own oversized rolling device, wearing nothing but a pair of black underwear. That’s our long way of alerting you that this clip is NSFW.

The Oct. 26 gig was promoted as the “last hurrah” for the Amphitheatre, as it was the final event handled by longtime operators Innervisions and Facilities Management Group, NewsOK reported. There is no official release date for Freak Night, but according to the NMEthe film will be available on the Flaming Lips’ website next week.
