FKA Twigs Dances on Dead Man in ‘Video Girl’ Visuals

fka twigs, video girl

A week after releasing a strangely choreographed Google Glass ad, FKA Twigs is back with the official visual for her trippy, bubbling LP1 cut “Video Girl.” The black-and-white video serves as an introspective take on the British singer’s track, which she’s said in interviews is at least tangentially about her time as a backup dancer in music videos for stars like Jessie J — see if you can spot her in the “Do It Like a Dude” visuals from 2011.

“Video Girl” reads like a Lynchian short film more than anything else. Directed by Kahlil Joseph, the project follows the loose narrative of a prisoner who keeps pictures of Twigs up on his cell walls and who is also put to death (talk about metaphor heaven) as the warbly voiced singer watches. Things get weirder when she enters the execution room to dance around and atop the man’s corpse after the doctors leave. Watch it unfold above.
