The Idler Wheel songstress covered “Pure Imagination,” a highlight from childhood staple Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, for a short animated film called “The Scarecrow.”
The video is part of the Mexican fast-food chain’s campaign against factory farming — a method of production that’s cruel to animals and the environment. Considering Apple’s veganism and ability to turn gorgeous words into an emotional gut punch, the pairing makes a ton of sense. Musically, her rendition of “Pure Imagination” matches the vignette’s progression from sadness to communal triumph. Whether that triumph carries over to the gym as you work off 780 calories of overstuffed burrito (and that’s before you add sour cream, guacamole, or cheese) falls to you.
