FestWatch: Green Day Top Voodoo Bill, Plus Riot Fest and iTunes Lineups

The spring/summer 2012 festival season is in full swing, and autumn fests are already starting to reveal their lineups. Yesterday, the late-blooming Voodoo Music Experience announced that its 14th installment, which hits New Orleans October 26-28, will be headed up by Green Day, whose “epic” trilogy of albums start dropping this fall. (The trio haven’t mapped a tour yet, but they’ve sketched out a few big anchor dates at fests in the U.K.) The rest of the Voodoo lineup is slated for a Wednesday announcement, but tickets are already available (via Fuse).

The iTunes festival, which has been held at London’s Camden Roundhouse as a free concert series every July since 2007, also announced its headliners this morning (via BBC); this year’s installment, which was been pushed back to September, will invite recent SNL charmer Usher and the Vegemite-hating One Direction to headline its month-long show schedule. For once not in a “headlining” slot (though with iTunes, there really isn’t a “headliner,” per se), Jack White will also play the fest, along with Norah Jones and a slew of as-yet-unnamed other performers. (Free) tickets will be available via iTunes.

And finally, the most complete (though still not all-the-way-complete) lineup announcement of the day belongs to Chicago’s eighth annual Riot Fest, which descends on Humboldt Park and the Congress Theater September 14-16 and will welcome Rise Against, Iggy and the Stooges (do we smell a Ke$ha cameo?), Descendents, Built to Spill, and the Jesus and Mary Chain among the first 35 acts announced for its astonishingly affordable ($36 for two days, $90 for three) offering. Also in the mix at Riot will be GWAR, who recently held a zombie prom benefit for the family of fallen guitarist Cory Smoot. Tickets are already on sale. Check the full (initial) lineup below.
