Pete Wentz Mistaken for ’50 Shades of Grey’ Author

Pete Wentz, Fall Out Boy

Pete Wentz might joke about kinky sex, but that doesn’t make the Fall Out Boy bassist the author of 50 Shades of Grey.

In a new interview with MTV, Wentz joked (?) that at least one book-shopper mistook him for E.L. James. “I showed up at a signing in New Jersey yesterday, and this lady was like, ‘The author of ’50 Shades of Grey’ is here?'” he’s quoted as saying. “I think that might have been a little disappointing for her. But I told her ‘Don’t worry about it, there’s just as much illicit sex in this book.'” To be fair, Wentz’ novel, which hit bookstores earlier this month, is titled Gray

When not writing the Great American sex book, of course, Wentz has been busy with the reunion of his platinum-selling emo-pop band, Fall Out Boy. Save Rock and Roll arrives on April 16, and the band played first single “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up)” during a recent Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance.

Wentz says he’s feeling so good about the reunited Fall Out Boy, in fact, even we’re wondering if he isn’t the 50 Shades of Grey author. “We’re having the reunion sex,” he told MTV of the group, “so like it’s so awesome that we don’t have to bring in the whips yet.” There’s something about that word “yet.”
