EXCLUSIVE: Unreleased Song from Ambient Duo jj

DOWNLOAD: Swedes unveil "Baby," a collage of ambient sounds that's a sonic sigh of relief.

William Goodman // June 25, 2010

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

That’s an appropriate reaction when listening to hot new Swedish duo jj, who are pushing the boundaries of ambient music with a combo of indie pop, acid house, new age, electro, hip-hop, and Caribbean elements, all paired with singer Elin Kastlander’s aching vocals. The result: a euphoric sound as soothing as lying on a private beach in St. Barts.

Take, for example, “Baby,” a previously unreleased track recorded during the sessions for Kastlander and Joakim Benon’s excellent 2009 debut jj n° 2. Download the song below.

On August 3, indie powerhouse label Secretly Canadian, which has released material from Animal Collective, Yeasayer, and Antony & the Johnsons, among others, will reissue jj n° 2on vinyl, CD, and digital formats (pre-order here).

What do you think of jj?
