Exclusive Stream: 16-Song Cure Tribute Album

MP3

The Cure's Robert Smith / The Wedding Present
The Cure's Robert Smith / The Wedding Present

Over the three decades since the Cure formed in the London suburbs of Crawley in 1976, the band has dabbled in many different genres, including reggae, new wave, and goth. And for Just Like Heaven, a new covers album out January 27 via American Laundromat Records, an even more eclectic collection of artists -- from former Breeders bassist Tanya Donelly to New Zealand twee-pop act the Brunettes -- have gathered to pay tribute.

Here, stream the entire record nearly three months in advance of its release. And then tell us which cover is your favorite in the comment section below.

only half-decent cover is Catch by Devices.. the rest really suck... stop trying to change the song u artistic ****ers... ur ruining them... stick to indie rawk

especially hated High... wtf were u guys thinking? YEAH LETS BE ORIGINAL AND MAKE IT PUNKY, NOBODY WILL EXPECT THAT

SOMETIMES U SHOULDNT **** WITH SOMETHING WHEN ITS SO GOOD SUCH AS CURE SONGS...

pictures of you COULDVE been ok... but once again, they tried to have too much fun with it, and the singers voice is too bland, she should cover some Christina Aguillera songs or some ****

THE ROSEBUDS cover of  The Walk  is Brilliant! One of my favorite bands that can do no wrong.  Long live The Rosebuds and The Cure!

Dean and Britta's "Friday I'm in Love" is so lovely and charming! One question...why is track 7 following track 6? They both sound like trite indie watered down versions of great punchy songs- and they sound alike- at least space them out on the album.

Wow, The Wedding Present's version of High is fabulous. It sounds like they could have recorded it 20 years ago.

Ah, love Elizabeth Harper & The Matinee... She sounds wonderful on here. As does Dean & Britta!

Julie Peel's rendition of Night Like This nailed it. Obviously evident by a number of these other artists, alot can be lost in the translation when you slow down the tempo of a Cure song. Peel's vocal texture pulls it off. I also liked these versions of The Walk, Pictures Of You and Let's Go To Bed. Boy's Don't Cry was totally wrecked!! Sampling these makes me want to check out Julie's other work but not run out to buy this tribute album. I'll stick to Smith and the "boys". Thanks for the peek Spin, you probably saved me 20 bucks!

I was never a huge Cure fan, although listening to this album has turned me on to it (admittedly I still prefer these covers more...is that sacrilege?!). In particular I am lovin' the rough sultriness of Elk City; the funky class of Tanya & Dylan; and especially the edginess and on-point clarity of Luff- they've got a bad ass, sexy lullaby thing going.

The cover of The Love Cats is my fave. Tanya Donelly can do no wrong by me and I think dylan in the movies might be my new favorite band. I need to find out more about that band. Tanya is such a talent. She played guitar in the Breeders, not bass. Listen to Pod to really understand her genius!!! Great covers.

This is terrible. A bunch of no-name bands covering songs in an untalented unoriginal and/or just plain annoying way.The only thing that doesn't totally suck a** is Tanya Donely.

OMG!!! This is an AMAZING group of artists and songs.  It's way too hard to pick one favorite so here's my top three from first listen: Julie Peel "A Night Like This", Elizabeth Harper "Pictures of You", Elk City "Close To Me".  -K
