Exclusive Song: NOFX Dis Tegan and Sara
MP3
Forget George W., NOFX have a new target: Tegan and Sara, the Canadian duo of singing lesbian twins, who get dissed in "Creeping Out Sara," a track off California pop-punk band's new record, Coaster (out April 28).
Over three silly minutes, NOFX vocalist Fat Mike tells a tale of meeting one of the sisters backstage at a festival in Germany, but not being able to tell which one. After realizing that he's talking with Sara (he heard Tegan was "the cooler one"), he proceeds to completely "creep" her out by asking if she knows where to score some pills or cocaine -- and if she's ever engaged in sexual acts with her sister (yuck!). To top it off, Mike manages to include a bevy of lesbian-related pop-cultural references, from Angelina Jolie's 1998 HBO film Gia to crooner K.D. Lang.
Hate the lyrics? Look on the bright side: "Creeping Out Sara" features the guitar-driven pop-punk formula that NOFX have perfected over their 26 years in the game.
Check out the tune below. And try not to offend anyone in the comments section.

Yeah all the wack bands sell out their shows and stick around for 25 years a so. Let me guess you are a Tool fan, or at least a tool.

People should do a little more googling before they let this article sway their minds. The song was done in pure humor. Tegan and Sara even responded to it by saying them and NOFX are cool. (I think Tegan even made a joke where she replied saying "I AM the cooler one." like the lyrics in the song say.)People need to chill out. There shouldn't be any controversy here.
Considering NOFX is a band who has supported gays since god knows when I don't think anything about them being anti-gay should be mentioned either. This is a band who drapes rainbow flags on their set, y'know?
It's just a song.

Anyone that thinks NOFX has any dispute with lesbians, or lesbian sisters for whatever that means, has surely never heard "Liza and Louise".
Any averse response is nothing more than the typical reactionary kneejerk that is all too commonplace in the humorless indie-rock scene that is exhibited whenever anybody slights their pet band that is capable of no wrong.
Please, people. Try to enjoy yourselves for once.
Pavement had had a sense of humor. Archers of Loaf and Superchunk too. And I suggest that you younger indie kids try and do the same.

When did punk rock become so serious? It's not a spectators sport. Last time I checked it was about freedom and expression. It's about hating all the elitist and fascist bastards, not being one. If you really like punk, then back off. Or i suppose you could go get a Mohawk and a jacket with studs and patches of all the "acceptable" punk bands. It's not a fashion statement, it's not even a genre, it's a lifestyle.

To all those who would call "punk" a "trend" : It's not. And if it is, then I suppose life is a trend. Your into it for a while, then you move on. Punk music shouldn't be over analyzed; analyzed: sure... over analyzed: no.
Fat Mike's name is a "dis" itself... So if he's cool with being called Fat Mike, he probably isn't trying to commit a hate crime against Lesbians or the two sisters portrayed in the song.

As a longtime punk music fan who's braved a mosh pit for everyone from the Circle Jerks to the Ramones to FEAR, and skipped school to meet Johnny Rotten when I was a kid... I agree with the poster who said "Spin, it's 2009. Who cares about NOFX."
They were terrible when they started and they're terrible now. They're like the dumb jocks of punk bands.

NOFX is dead serious. They hate lesbians!!!! They hate all gays!!! They are pro killing racist fascist evil people that need to be exterminated! And if you have read this far and believed it, you either 1.never listened to NOFX before, 2. believe anything some random moron posted on a message board. 3. have absolutely no idea what sarcasm is (stop googling it) or 5. Have no sense of humor. Don't worry it won't destroy Sara or Tegan, I'm pretty sure they are big girls and don't need defending from you.
Oh and if you are about to post about how my numbers aren't right, see 3 and 6.

He wrote the song cuz he was hanging out with one of the sisters. he said he had a really good time with them. it ended up being tegan he met and he talked to her about the song since everyone got really mad. she said she liked the song and thought it was funny. he said he was really dissing himself by making himself look like a drunk idot. haha

You're absolutely right, it's classic NOFX terrible crap! And yes I think evereyone gets it.... it's not like it's complicated to get or anything. If you listen to it the lyrics make the guy singing sound retarded and rude not Sara (or is it tegan?). If Tegan and Sara fans get truly affected they're dumb. They should be complaining about what crap it is and not get offended for Tegan and Sara... that's just dumb.
Also dumbass, the president didn't say anything about the NOFX song that was critical of his term in office because I'm sure he didn't notice or care because it's NOFX and no one cares about them. Seriously, it's NOFX... who cares?
Smoke some weed and relax.

Tegan & Sara are my favorite band and I have loved NOFX since middle school, which has been about 13 years now. I heard the song and thought it was hilarious and don't see what the big deal is. If it were me, I would be honored that NOFX would take time to write a song about me. Yeah they say stuff about them being gay but really, they could have absolutely slammed them if they wanted to. The song is about creeping Sara out, which makes them the creepy ones in the song. All this politically correctness is getting ridiculous, especially when people are angry at a band like NOFX who also have songs called "My V*g*n*" and "Hot Dog In a Hallway." Just sayin'.

Hahahaha. It's ****ing hillarious that there are people talking about 'following the herd' when it comes to music. Uh - we're all posting in response to an article in SPIN for chrissakes. Pretentious little prigs.
Music doesn't define you. The punk scene? Dead. The Warped Tour killed it. Or helped kill it. Or who even cares? The music is still around and that's what matters. I love the 'punker than thou' attitude, though. The more things change, the more they stay the same, it seems.
Something I've observed: The 'punker than thou' sorts wind up getting tired of it and move on to get real jobs and occasionally talk about how they 'used to like punk'. Since '93 (I think around then?), I've known over a dozen people who have done exactly that.
Christina Aguilera (or however you spell her damn name) has a great voice. If you listen to her stuff and you like it: More power to you. And just so we're on the same page: Fat Mike does run a record label. A big record label (considering it's punk). If being 'trendy' bothers you, you may want to consider idolizing another band. :) Like Bill Parker and his Motherscratchers...or something like that. Yeah, yeah. Nice name drop, I know. Just giving an example.
Bad news, guys. Punk rock is and always will be another trend. I love it, but let's not delude ourselves.

Iam the only one that actually likes both bands?? NOFX is my favorite band, and I love punk music, but I think that Tegan and Sara are one the best exponents of indie/pop music. So, one thing doesn't mean the contrary of the other. Just laugh about the lyrics, and that's all. Ahh, by the way, this song rocks!!
