Exclusive Song: The Hold Steady Cover Springsteen

It’s a no-brainer: The Hold Steady + Bruce Springsteen = absolute awesomeness. And you can hear it all below!

For the Hold Steady’s contribution to the War Child benefit compilation, Heroes (out Feb. 24), the Boss hand-picked the Brooklyn boys to interpret “Atlantic City,” a tune from 1982’s Nebraska. And like Bowie and TV on the Radio before them, the pairing makes total sense: The Hold Steady employ the Boss’ tell-it-as-it-is lyrics and guitar- and horn-laden, classic-rock style. And both elements are in high form on the track, as frontman Craig Finn sings about the declining Jersey city while the guys add bar-band charm with sped-up drums and a hot-shit guitar solo.
