Opening with a wall of colliding guitar melodies and thunderous drums, "Ascending" picks up where 2002's art- and alt-rock masterpiece Source Tags & Codes left off, complete with marching band drums and pirate-like battle chants, bolstered by vocals from Brooklyn psych-rock crazies Dragons of Zynth: "After the war / We left the dead on the shore / But their screams and cries / Still haunt us wherever we go."
