EXCLUSIVE: Pearl Jam’s Ament Debuts Tres Mts.

Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament is branching out with a side-project dubbed Tres Mts. – and the bassist has roped in a crew of grunge-era icons for the group, including Doug Pinnick of King’s X and Richard Stuverud of the Fastbacks. The band is set to release their debut album next week, but SPIN has an early taste with an exclusive stream of the track “Makes Me Feel.” Hear it below.

On Three Mountains, Ament, Pinnick, and Stuverud deliver a hard-charging collection of bar-appropriate rockers – including the raging lead single “My Baby” – but “Makes Me Feel” is one of the album’smost striking highlights: a brooding, five-minute ballad powered by tribal drums, groovy bass lines, and Pinnick yelping, shouting, and screeching like a shaman who’s in the throes of a peyote-powered desert ritual. Awesome!

Pearl Jam have plenty on tap for 2011 – they’re celebrating their 20th anniversary by releasing reissues of Vs. and Vitalogy and planning an outdoor summer festival – but Ament and his band have managed to slot in a few Tres Mts. gigs: They’ll perform on Fallon March 24, and play a handful of shows across the country, where they’ll be joined by PJ guitarist Mike McCready. Check out dates below.
