Exclusive: New I’m From Barcelona Stream, “Paper Planes”

While the title of Swede — yes, not Spanish — indie-pop collective I’m From Barcelona‘s forthcoming sophomore record may explore the mystery behind magician Harry Houdini’s death, the album’s first single, “Paper Planes” — premiered exclusive below via SPIN.com — certainly doesn’t heed its stark sentiment.

With a bright, grand brass section and layers upon layers of instrumentation, “Paper Planes” cheerily blasts out while plucking banjo, fluting bassoon, and poky piano flesh out the intricacies. Principal songwriter Emanuel Lundgren’s voice — accompanied by many others on select stanzas — pipes on a “big old man in his underpants,” the “Cosby Show,” and “throwing paper planes,” and the track is sonically animated in added laugh tracks and instrumental splendor. Now that’s magic enough in itself.
