EXCLUSIVE: New D.C. Quartet Deleted Scenes

What do you get when you mix the smart, sweeping pop of the Shins with Talking Heads’ artful angst? Something like Washington, D.C., quartet Deleted Scenes. Check out our premiere of the first single, “Bedbedbedbedbed,” from their second album, Young People’s Church of the Air (due in September).

The song is an indie club anthem with floating guitars, gentle-and-charming melodies, and military-march drums, paired with come-hither lyrics from frontman Dan Scheuerman: “Won’t you crawl into my bed?” he asks. Sexy! Actually, not really…

“It’s a broken love song,” Scheuerman tells SPIN. “I had been sleeping in the band’s van and in friends’ closets for a couple months during a long-distance period of a relationship, living very selfishly and not paying my college loans or cutting my hair or returning phone calls. When my girlfriend moved back into town, she really helped me get my shit together and start being a more decent person.”
