EXCLUSIVE: LCD Bandmember’s Electro Film Score

Trent Reznor (The Social Network) isn’t the only SPIN favorite making a name composing music for movies. Fall On Your Sword, the electronic duo featuring founding LCD Soundsystem member Philip Mossman, wrote the score to Sundance prizewinner Another Earth, which hits theaters in NYC and LA this weekend. Watch the debut music video, “The First Time I Saw Jupiter,” exclusively here.

The clip is set in a science classroom, where video projections, stop-motion graphics, and animated special effects whirl around to FOYS’ beautiful, blip-y soundscape, replete with staccato chirps, reverberating guitar, and laser-like electronics, underpinned by a harrowing synth beat. The result is a hypnotic, otherworldly feeling.

Fall On Your Sword also features Will Bates, who created the viral sensation “Shatner of the Mount.” The duo’s fans include Mossman’s former LCD bandmate James Murphy, who called the group “possibly the coolest thing on the planet at the moment,” and director Jason Reitman (Up in the Air, Juno).

Another Earth, which stars Brit Marling and William Mapother (who is Tom Cruise’s cousin and played the creepy Ethan on Lost), won Sundance’s Alfred P. Sloan Prize for “outstanding film with science, technology, or math as a major theme.”
