Elijah Wood’s Label to Release New Apples in Stereo Album

Apples in Stereo have been picked up by actor Elijah Wood’s joint venture with Yep Roc, Simian Records, to release their first album in five years, New Magnetic Wonder (Feb. 7). The Lord of the Rings actor and Apples lead singer Robert Schneider met at SXSW in 2003 when the band was looking for a new label, having recently departed from long-time label spinART. Since Wood was about to launch Simian, the partnership seemed natural. “I’ve been a fan of the Apples for years,” Wood said in a statement. “I’m truly honored and excited that New Magnetic Wonder will be Simian Records’ first release.”

Apples’ new project features 14 songs and twelve musical segues, as well as special guests including Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum. Schneider also focused on the mathematical element of his song structure. “My deepest passion is seeking harmony and symmetry in arranging instrumental parts and mixing, as well as in mathematical equations and in the physical world,” he told SPIN.com. “The actual songwriting is a happy accident, like a day with perfect weather, which you simply enjoy while it is happening and don’t over-think.”
