Eleanor Friedberger Works Her Comedy Chops in Oddball ‘My Own World’ Video

Eleanor Friedberger has once again teamed with director Scott Jacobson, this time for the music video to “My Own World,” a modest highlight from the Fiery Furnaces singer’s most recent solo album, Personal Record. The absurdist clip — which follows Jacobson’s work on the videos for Friedberger’s “Heaven” and “Stare at the Sun,” as well as the Furnaces’ “Even in the Rain” — stars actress Kate Lyn Sheil (The Comedy) as a down-on-her-luck couch-surfer who can’t hold the attention of her therapist (played by comedian, writer, and actor Ted Travelstead) and can’t stay in the good graces of her friend (portrayed by Friedberger). Like any worthwhile joke, the video pulls laughs out of a sobering truth.

“Kate did an amazing job portraying the isolation expressed in the song and Ted provided the perfect comic relief,” Eleanor told Rolling Stone. “As always, Scott managed to lend a touch of humor and playfulness to an otherwise somber song that is essentially about the fear of interruption.”
