Drake Duets With Brian McKnight, Beefs With Blake Griffin at the 2014 ESPYs

Based on his versatile entertainment career, love of sports, and willingness to make fun of himself, we knew that Drake would be a terrific ESPYs host. Still, that didn’t prepare us for some of the hilarity that ensued at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater on Wednesday night — who expected the rapper to engage in an ever-escalating faux-feud with Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin? Summarizing all of the jokes would ruin the fun, but we’ll grudgingly admit that the cameo by Chris Brown made us laugh. (Breezy later calling himself “America’s sweetheart”? Not so much.) Elsewhere in the night, Drake made some well-intentioned, but risqué, jokes in his monologue, paid tribute to sports mistresses in a duet with Brian McKnight called “Side Pieces,” read poems to WNBA star Skylar Diggins, and sang the song “Honorable Mention” for all the losers in the building.
