As far as spin-offs go, New Order's Bernard Sumner has a pretty solid track record. Electronic, his strong '90s collabo with the Smith's Johnny Marr, spawned the U.K. hit single "Get the Message." And remember: New Order itself rose out of the ashes of the legendary Joy Division. Now the singer-guitarist is at it again.
Sumner's newest project, Bad Lieutenant, finds him teaming up with New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham (who joined the latter band in 2001) and vocalist-guitarist Jake Evans. The band's debut album, Never Cry Another Tear, which features appearances by Blur bassist Alex James and New Order drummer Stephen Morris, is set for an exclusive Amazon.com digital-only release on October 6. The album goes to other, non-Amazonian, outlets on November 10.
