Los Angeles-based Heavens — featuring Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba and F-Minus bassist Joe Steinbrick — aren’t dropping their Epitaph debut until Sept. 12, but you can expect tons of swelling, ominous undertones judging from their first single and title track, “Patent Pending,” offered here as an exclusive download! The velvety number, which feels like a grittier Placebo or ballsier Interpol, swells with emo-tinged lyrics and enough pop-punk inflected guitar spikes true to both artists’ primary bands. Funny how the hipsters are going emo, and emo’s going hipster.
