Chromeo Update Donna Summer’s ‘Love Is in Control’ for Nu-Disco Era

Donna Summer 'Love Is in Control' Chromeo Oliver Remix Love to Love You Donna Album

With Daft Punk and Robin Thicke leading the current disco revival, it’s the perfect time to revisit the amazing works of the genre’s one and only queen, Donna Summer. As a tribute to the late singer, who died of cancer in 2012, Verve enlisted a roster of dance heavyweights to remix her timeless songs for the album Love to Love You Donna.

The first track to come from the LP is Chromeo and Oliver’s reworking of her Grammy-nominated 1982 hit, “Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger),” and an accompanying video (currently streaming at Rolling Stone) that mixes her Reagan-era footage with movie clips and modern effects. As for the music itself, the song gets an update in the instrumental department, making it ready for any modern dance floor while still retaining the power of Summer’s original vocals. Compare the new version above to the 1982 classic below, and pick up the album — which also features work by Hot Chip and her longtime collaborator Giorgio Moroder — on October 22.
