And it's come to this. George Zimmerman has parlayed his exoneration in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin into some twisted form of celebrity, and his latest headline grab is a charity boxing match with none other than rapper DMX.
Zimmerman, who's had a number of run-ins with the law following his acquittal, including a few charges of domestic violence, is focusing his energy on boxing these days. In an interview with RadarOnline last month, he explained that the sport was his preferred method of exercise "prior to the incident," and that a mutual friend put him in touch with Celebrity Boxing founder Damon Feldman, who's previously set up bouts with luminaries such as Tonya Harding and Joey Buttafuoco.
The dynamic duo received over 15,000 applicants who wanted to take on Zimmerman, and this morning they issued a press release saying that DMX is the chosen form of the Destructor. The rapper had previously made his interest in the three-round fight known to TMZ, saying, "I am going to beat the living fuck out him. I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I fuck him right up." He also plans to piss on Zimmerman's face because he's "a piece of shit and that's what he needs to drink."
Zimmerman says he already has a charity picked out to receive the proceeds from the fight, but won't reveal the organization's name to spare them the negative press. The fight is tentatively scheduled for March 1, and will reportedly be shown on the web and Pay Per View.
