DMX Denies Possession in South Carolina Marijuana Arrest
Police report says he "became very aggressive with his words"
DMX was arrested in South Carolina Tuesday night (August 20) for possession of marijuana. Though the police say they found three bags of the stuff following a traffic stop, the 42-year-old rapper born Earl Simmons claims that no drugs were found on his person. He also claims that authorities never showed the contraband to him or the other passengers in the pulled-over truck.
According to TMZ, the police report says Simmons smelled of alcohol during the traffic stop and became “very aggressive with his words and was making multiple idle threats.” Police say they discovered marijuana sitting on the armrest nearest DMX. They cited the rapper for pot and brought him in on an earlier outstanding warrant for allegedly driving without a license.
In the video above, the MC can be heard protesting the situation as it began to go down. TMZ reports that he was taken to a jail in Greer County and released this morning. He expected to have a sit-down with a judge today and may wind up doing 15 days in lockup. Also, there are reports that he suffered an asthma attack during the stop. Here’s a statement from DMX’s rep:
“DMX was driving in the passenger seat when the vehicle he was in was pulled over last night. Although officers pulled them over for a minor traffic violation, DMX was asked to step outside so they can search the vehicle. Officers then claimed that they found bags of marijuana in the floorboard and arrested X. No drugs were found on DMX or the other passengers and the alleged bags of marijuana were never shown to DMX or the other passengers. DMX was released this morning at approximately 11am EST and is back at his home in South Carolina.”
