Just like blonde warbler Christina Aguilera, it seems dios (Malos) has gone “back to basics,” so to speak. The Hawthorne, CA quintet’s forthcoming third album (tentatively titled Life Between the Tides) shuns the studio and harkens back to the group’s DIY roots, focusing on home recording without losing any of their signature complexity. So fresh it’s still unmastered, “Know Is Wrong” already shows promise and polish, trotting along with kicky drums before melting into a sweet haze of ’50s-style pop (think “Earth Angel”). dios (Malos) are currently on the road (in a “vegetable oil powered van,” notes the press release) with the Spinto Band before parking in Austin for a SXSW showcase.
