Diddy's Girls are No. 1 on the Chart

Danity Kane, Diddy’s ladies of MTV’s Making the Band 3, saw their debut album bow at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart this week, beating OutKast’s latest, Idlewild, by over 38,000 copies. The self-titled debut from Danity Kane moved more than 234,000 units, well over what the last two Making the Band debuts sold: O-Town’s self-titled set debuted at No. 5 in 2001 with around 145,000 copies and Da Band’s To Hot for T.V. bowed at No. 2 in 2003 with about 204,000 copies, according to Billboard.com. OutKast’s Idlewild moved more than 196,000 copies, well under the 510,000 copies 2003’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below sold.

Also making a mark on the chart this week is heiress-turned-wannabe-rocker Paris Hilton’s self-titled debut, which missed the top five, bowing at No. 6 after selling just under 77,000. Not a great start, but it still earns the title of being the highest debut for a new solo female pop artist in 2006. Nas’ first lady, Kelis, also saw her latest album, Kelis Was Here, debut on the top 200 this week, coming in at No. 10 with a few copies short of 58,000. Other notable debuts include Cursive’s Happy Hollow, which debuted at No. 96 with 9,518; J Dilla’s Shining, which came in at No.103 with 8,909; Razorlight’s self-titled album, which bowed at No. 180 with 4,320; and OK Go’s Oh No, which debuted at No. 190 with 4,233.
