Desaparecidos Shout Out Communists’ Daughter on Fiery New Single

Desaparecidos, new single, conor oberst "Te Amo Camila Vallejo" "The Underground Man"

Since reuniting last year, Desaparecidos have released a pair of politically charged 7-inch/digital singles. The first featured “MariKKKopa” and “Backsell,” the second held “Anonymous” and “The Left is Right.” Now the Conor Oberst-fronted five-piece have unleashed a third: “The Underground Man” and “Te Amo Camila Vallejo,” which appears to be a tribute to the Chilean communist activist of the same name.

Naturally, the songs are exactly the kind of hot-blooded, post-hardcore anthems that the Omaha crew deprived fans of during their 10-year silence. (The Bright Eyes leader broke away from his main gig for a moment to release Desaparecidos’ Read Music/Speak Spanish in 2002.) Backed by frenzied drumming and tightly coiled guitar-work, Oberst calls for workers to resist their overseers, demands a march down the boulevard (any boulevard will do), and calls some empty suit out for towing the party line even though it makes him sick. Stream and purchase both songs at the Desaparecidos website.
