Death Cab for Cutie Play ‘Black Sun’ on ‘Letterman’

Death Cab for Cutie, Letterman, Black Sun, Kintsugi

Death Cab for Cutie visited Late Show with David Letterman last night for their first television appearance with their new lineup. The band played “Black Sun,” off of their upcoming album, Kintsugi. The indie-rock stalwarts cruised through the introspective, melancholy track with aplomb, though Letterman had a few questions for the Washington state group. “Have you been up Mount Whitney?” he asked frontman Ben Gibbard, who said that he had not. The host then asked what “Kintsugi” meant, and, upon being told that it was “a manner of repairing Japanese ceramics,” figured the definition explained why Gibbard had never climbed the mountain — too busy reparing Asian pots, it would seem. Watch “Black Sun” above, and look for Kintsugi on March 31
