Dean Wareham Is a Solitary Man in ‘Love Is Colder Than Death’ Video

Dean Wareham, "Love Is Colder Than Death," video

Dean Wareham’s new Emancipated Hearts EP marks the first nominal solo outing from the Galaxie 500 and Luna frontman, but he didn’t do it alone. Production comes courtesy of Jason Quever, who helms San Francisco-based indie-pop project Papercuts and has technical credits on records by Beach House and Cass McCombs. There’s also drumming from Anthony LaMarca, strings by Gillian Rivers, and bass courtesy of Wareham’s wife, Britta Phillips, a.k.a. one half of their duo Dean & Britta. Wareham didn’t make the video for downcast standout “Love Is Colder Than Death” all by himself, either — Lucas Celler directs — but he cuts a solitary figure in it, gazing out ambiguously as shifting colors play across his stern features. It’s a clip as quietly graceful as the tune itself.
