Stream De La Soul’s J Dilla-Produced ‘Smell the D.A.I.S.Y.’ Mixtape

de la soul, j dilla, smell the d.a.i.s.y.

De La Soul have been in generous spirits of late. Not long after they offered their entire discography for free, the iconic hip-hop trio shared two cuts from their latest mixtape, the J Dilla-produced Smell the D.A.I.S.Y. (“D.A.I.S.Y.” is short for “Da Inner Soul of Yancey,” a reference to Jay Dee’s real name, James Dewitt Yancey.) Now, after dropping “Dilla Plugged In” and “Vocabulary Spills,” De La have shared Smell the D.A.I.S.Y. in its entirety.

The 11-track set, which features reworked, classic De La Soul lyrics over beats by the late, great Mr. Yancey, is rich in no-frills percussion, spring-loaded loops, and funky rhythms. D.A.I.S.Y. is also streaming online and available for free download through De La’s official website, as well as BitTorrent. Fans who grab the mixtape over at BitTorrent will have access to the Dilla documentary Still Shining, an audio letter, and more.

Treat yourself to the collage below, and stay tuned for more updates from De La Soul: The Native Tongues survivors have plans to release the Premium Soul on the Rocks EP and a new album titled You’re Welcome at some point this year.
