David Lynch built his distinct, peculiar reputation on the strength of his dream-like film and television work, but this year, the visionary behind Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks has been focusing on music. His second album of original material, The Big Dream, dropped last month (singles "I'm Waiting Here" and "Star Dream Girl" came first), and the lensman recently directed the (potentially) seizure-inducing video for Nine Inch Nails' "Came Back Haunted." Now, Lynch is entering the remix game with John Foxx and Jori Hulkkonen's "Evangeline," the opening song on the pair's just-released European Splendour EP.

Here, the iconic 67-year-old filmmaker strips away the liquid bounce that floods the electronic original, instead conjuring smoky atmospherics and employing mechanized marching beats. Lynch's alternate take comes paired with a visual companion, a nearly seven-minute video directed by Lustix that specializes in eerie, abstract imagery: Flames, lasers, crystals, and metallic skulls all feature prominently. Enjoy that above, and scroll down to stream the all six tracks of European Splendour, which includes an instrumental version of Lynch's "Evangeline" redux.
