Dave Grohl’s ‘Sound City’ Documentary Is Coming to a Theater Near You

Dave Grohl 'Sound City'

The movie Dave Grohl has called “my life’s most important work” is headed for the big screen. The Foo Fighters frontman’s full-length directing debut, the documentary Sound City, is now scheduled for a theatrical release at cities across the country. That follows a premiere later this month at Utah’s Sundance Film Festival, which will be accompanied by the live debut of Grohl’s new Sound City Players.

Like LCD Soundsystem’s Shut Up and Play the Hits last year, Sound City will have most of its screenings limited to one night only: January 31, which just happens to be the day before the release date for a video download of the movie. A smattering of screenings are scheduled for additional dates through February 22. Ticketing information is available on Sound City‘s website.

Of course, the former Nirvana drummer has more than a movie to keep him busy these days. Oh, you know, he’s only been drumming for the new Queens of the Stone Age album, covering Led Zeppelin with Foo Fighters, directing a Deadmau5-implicating Soundgarden video, and playing with Bob Mould. There’s also that little matter of a Paul McCartney-led reunion of Nirvana’s surviving members.
