Damon Albarn Hints at New Gorillaz Album in 2016

Damon Albarn Gorillaz Good Bad Queen 2016 Return Interview

While prepping for the Australian leg of his tour in support of his recent solo album Everyday Robots, Damon Albarn offered the Sydney Morning Herald some pretty tantalizing news about what he has planned next. In addition to the previously announced “mainstream musical for families,” Albarn says his next proper record will come courtesy his wildly popular animated band Gorillaz.

Albarn says he is currently working on “reactivating” the band, but that the album could see a 2016 release. It’d be his fifth album under that name overall and the first since 2011’s iPad constructed album The Fall.

In other exciting Albarn news, he also says he has another record “fully written” for the Good, the Bad, and the Queen, his collaboration with The Clash’s Paul Simonin, drummer Tony allen, and The Verve’s Simon Tong. Blur, however doesn’t seem to have much planned in the works, though he does say that he “[imagines] there’s some kind of future” for the band. Albarn’s never been one to sit still, but it seems that the next couple of years might be particularly busy for him.
