Damon Albarn Is Writing a ‘Mainstream Musical for Families’

Blur’s Damon Albarn is still in the midst of touring in support of his April solo record Everyday Robots (one of SPIN’s 50 Best Albums of 2014…So Far), but as usual he’s already eyeing his next project, as NME reports. In an interview with The Daily Star, Albarn said that he’s writing a musical to debut in London’s West End.

“It’s funny for me to say ‘I’m writing a musical’, but, yes, that’s what I’m doing next.” Albarn said.

According to the London-born songwriter, the project started in more familiar ground as a “leftfield, experimental opera,” like Monkey: Journey to the West or Dr. Dee, but it has since transformed into “a mainstream musical for families.”

Few other details on the new endeavor are available at this time. But in other Albarn news, at a hometown show this weekend, he enlisted his former bandmate Graham Coxon to unearth another Blur song, this time 13‘s  “Tender.” You can watch video of that above, thanks to Consequence of Sound.
