Daft Punk's 'Instant Crush' Video Stars Julian Casablancas in Museum Romance

'Random Access Memories' clip finds love among Napoleon-era statues

The video Daft Punk recently teased on French TV has arrived in full, and as expected, it makes a whole lot more sense of Julian Casablancas' Napoleonic-soldier doppelgänger. The gooey new-wave pop of Random Access Memories's "Instant Crush" gets a visual that mixes performance-style footage of the Strokes singer with the uncanny tale of two star-crossed lovers — who just happen to be statues in a museum. One of them, of course, looks like a 19th-century French military version of Casablancas. "And we will never be alone again / 'Cause It doesn't happen every day," the man's processed voice promises, and he's right: This is no fleeting romance.

The clip comes as a well-conceived change-up after the album's previous videos, for "Lose Yourself to Dance" and "Get Lucky," which showed the robot duo playing instruments with Nile Rodgers and Pharrell. The expansive Random Access Memories box set should start shipping anytime, and it's availabe for pre-order. Casablancas' website has been hinting at a new solo project of his own.
