The Cure’s Cover of the Beatles’ ‘Hello Goodbye’ Is Pretty Much Perfect

November 18 will see the release of The Art of McCartney, a Paul McCartney tribute album featuring covers by Bob Dylan, KISS, Perry Farrell, Smokey Robinson, Billy Joel, Chrissie Hynde, Peter, Bjorn, & John, and more. Also included? This lovely version of the Beatles’ “Hello Goodbye” done by the Cure. Above you’ll see the goth-pop icons perform a faithful rendition of the 1967 single, with a little help from Macca’s son, James McCartney, on keyboards. Of course, Robert Smith’s fragile, unmistakable voice injects the song with an extra bit of giddy curiosity. As Pitchfork points out, this is the first recording to come from the Cure since 2008. Earlier this year, Smith promised that his long-running band would release some new music in 2014 (along with some old music) and that they’d embark on yet another “Trilogy” tour.

For now, watch the Cure salute the Fab Four (via the Guardian), then head over to the official website for The Art of McCartney to pre-order the lavish set in whichever format you prefer.
