Courtney Love Might Sue Over ‘Guitar Hero’

It’s one of those days when we need Courtney Love’s Twitter translator on retainer. The Hole frontwoman is raving mad about the depiction of her deceased husband, Kurt Cobain, in the new version of Activision’s popular Guitar Hero franchise, and she’s threatening to sue.

“FOR THE RECORD I DID NOT APPROVE KURTS AVATAR FOR GUYITARHERO5,” the singer posted on Twitter. “[I] think Kurt would despise this game alone let alone this avatar.” Then, an hour later: “Disgusted? Welcome to my NIGHTMARE. [Y]eah we[‘]ll sue [A]ctivision this is disgusting.”

And, finally: “[W]e have NOTHING to do with this[.][I]t was presented to me and [I] said “show me a better avataR” TO DRAG MY HEELS. [N]ever did [I] intend on allowing GUITARHERO for me or for Kurt[.] [I] am NOT [Y]oko fucking Ono no of[f]ense to her, but [I] am a different person entirely and this is insane.”

Courtney’s rabid response last night comes about two weeks after websites began to post screen shots and videos of the Cobain character in Guitar Hero 5, down to the familiar Daniel Johnston t-shirt.

Activision replied to Love’s charges in a statement: “Guitar Hero secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a written agreement signed by Courtney Love to use Kurt Cobain’s likeness as a fully playable character in Guitar Hero® 5.”
