The first thing that any artistic collaboration requires is an honest appraisal of the artists’ shared values: where do the different creative ideas meet, overlap, and dance together? For the Connect Sessions powered by Microsoft project of electronic musician Com Truise and visual artist CandyStations (Deborah Johnson), the commonalities lie in how the neon tones of the generative videos match the ‘80s-soundtrack textures, and the way the intricate drum programming is reflected in the geometric visual shapes. Johnson says that finding a shared aesthetic “requires a lot of empathy.” Based on initial results, the feelings of Com Truise and CandyStations seem to be wide open.
