Hear Grass Widow Offshoot Cold Beat’s Garage-Pop Lament ‘Worms’

Cold Beat "Worms" stream EP grass widow

Grass Widow bassist and songwriter Hannah Lew is stepping out with her side project Cold Beat, releasing the single “Worms” in advance of a 12-inch EP. The track is about Lew’s father’s death in 2009 and has the dark, surf-garage vibe of early Dum Dum Girls. Lew’s Grass Widow bandmate Lillian Maring plays drums, with Kyle King on guitar and Cody Blanchard of Shannon and the Clams on guitar and synthesizer. The band’s EP, Worms/Year 5772, will feature the title tracks on the A side with remixes by doom-synth band POW! and Total Control’s Mikey Young on the other. It will be released on November 5 via Lew’s new label, Crime on the Moon. Pre-order it here.
