Hear Cocktails’ Sun-Baked Slop-Pop Cut ‘No Blondes (In California)’

Cocktails, a self-described “slop-pop” foursome from San Francisco, blend sun-baked fuzz with Pacific Coast Highway-ready melodies, stirred in turn by frontman Patrick Clos’ Elvis Costello-like sneer. “We got the palm trees / We got the cool leaves,” Clos champions for “No Blondes (In California),” the opener off the four-piece’s upcoming self-titled debut EP. “We got the teenage dreams.” But about halfway through, Clos reveals himself to be a student of Paul Westerberg’s canon as well. “I must be twice your age / And I hate the waves,” he sings behind hangover-hiding shades. “And who the hell knows how to surf anyway?”

Cocktails’ debut EP is out digitally and on vinyl February 12 through Father/Daughter Records.
