Coachella’s Ticketing Site Breaks, Fest Still Sells Out Both Weekends

coachella sells out

Coachella has reached the point where no matter which acts organizers trot out to headline their festival, the thing will still sell out in a matter of minutes. That’s why, despite its Rolling Stones-less lineup this year, the Coachella’s first weekend (beginning April 12) sold out in less than 15 minutes, the Los Angeles Times reports. In fact, when weekend passes went on sale this morning, so many people tried to purchase tickets that the site briefly crashed. (A similar incident happened last year when we tried to get Bonnaroo tickets on the on-sale date.) At press time, the April 19 weekend appears to have old out, too, barring the $2,000 to $5,200 VIP Lake Eldorado camping packages, according to the festival’s ticketing page.

Oh there are SO many people buying. Hang tight, try again in a minute…. THANKS for all your patience,” Front Gate, the company that handled ticketing, posted on Facebook after many ticket buyers struggled to enter their payment information.

While the fest did sell out for the third consecutive year, organizers did have a sizable head start: A majority of passes went to early-bird buyers last May. So, Coachella, you win this round! But we’re left to wonder, given such an underwhelming lineup for 2013, how many people will blindly purchase those leg-up early-bird passes for 2014 in May?
