The 2014 CMAs: Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor Lead Pop Takeover

The Country Music Association Awards (CMAs) occurred for the 48th time last night, and in case you missed it, Taylor Swift was conspicuously absent, Luke Bryan won Entertainer of the Year, and Miranda Lambert won pretty much everything else. Her big night was capped by getting to perform with current pop sensation Meghan Trainor in what was one of two of the evening’s awkward pop duets.

The two sang Trainor’s now-officially-omnipresent “All About That Bass,” shuffling awkwardly next to each other, Lambert performing with the enthusiasm of an actor gritting their teeth through a contractually obligated film role at the end of a long studio deal. It was fun for no one, with the notable exception of Lambert’s husband Blake Shelton, who was PUMPED.

Similarly, Little Big Town coda’d an over-ambitious drumline performance of hit “Day Drinking” by inexplicably bringing out Ariana Grande for a rendition of her part in recent smash “Bang Bang.” The group played the good sport in singing backing vocals and bopping along to a song that couldn’t have less to do with them.

These were two things that happened last night. You can watch one above and the other below.
