Hear Circulatory System Trip Through ‘Stars and Molecules’

Circulatory System 'Stars and Molecules' Stream

Circulatory System are getting ready to release their third album, Mosaics Within Mosaics, a 31-song behemoth from the Athens, Georgia psychedelic outfit. They’ve just released the second track from the album, “Stars and Molecules,” an interstellar mixture of swirling guitars and lo-fi vocals that takes a Middle Eastern bent partway through. If it seems like a patchwork tune, that’s because it really is: Drummer Derek Almstead took 10 years’ worth of founder W. Cullen Hart’s studio experiments and pieced them together to make the record.

The group’s current label, Cloud Recordings, describes the album as “a highly traditional interconnected/musique concrète-dappled/post-SMiLE/harmony-drenched/imagistic/collaborative home-recorded entheogenic Wall of Sound fantasia from one of the form’s inventors and unceasing innovators.” As is usually the case with Hart, the Elephant Six member who also co-founded Olivia Tremor Control, listeners should expect the unexpected. Mosaics Within Mosaics, which also features Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum among many guests, is due out June 24.
