Hear Caveman’s Glistening Ballad ‘Over My Head’

Caveman 'In Over My Head' Album Tour Dates

SPIN spent some time with Caveman’s 2011 album CoCo Beware, and even sat down with the boys to discuss their idea of a legendary album at last year’s SXSW, but even we didn’t see this Brooklyn band’s stylistic overhaul coming. In January, we heard them make the sudden jump from whispering folk to “Low-Life-era New Order covering War on Drugs” via new song “In the City.” Now we’ve got a second taste of their forthcoming self-titled sophomore release, due out April 2 on Fat Possum, and it’s just as striking. “Over My Head” is a slow swooner but it’s full of powerful resonance — plus glistening guitars, apocalyptic synths, and soulful semi-choral vocals. Perhaps it’s easiest to imagine a New Wave ballad remade by the able paws of Grizzly Bear. It’s also rather easy to listen to right here:
