Catch the Buzz: Willoughby

This slacker-pop outfit, helmed by L.A. scene vet Gus Seyffert, will debut Sept. 9 with the dreamy, mellow I Know What You're Up To.

Who? Already a staple in the Los Angeles scene, known for his songwriting and production work with everyone from Rilo Kiley's Benji Hughes to love-pop duo the Bird & the Bee and Australian songstress Sia, sonic handyman Gus Seyffert is all set to add yet another bullet to his storied resume: frontman. Seyffert, with the aid of a few pals, will debut under his Willoughby moniker Sept. 9 with I Know What You're Up To, a slacker indie-pop work drenched in downcast shimmer, dreamy neo-folk, bits of funk, and off-kilter vocal scratches. It essentially sounds like a heartbroken, Mellow Gold-era Beck armed with an acoustic six-string and a bottle of Xanax, sharing his intimacies with Elliott Smith.

Their latest: I Know What You're Up To, Willoughby's debut full-length, is set to arrive Sept. 9 via Sargent Records.

Recommended if you like… Elliott Smith, Kings of Convenience, Wilco
