Whether Cat Power's 2012 tour would make it overseas became unclear on Tuesday (October 30) when Chan Marshall tweeted that "bankruptcy" and her "health struggle with angioedema" might halt more than a dozen European dates. Two days later, in another all-caps message posted to Twitter, Marshall confirmed that the show will indeed go on abroad, but without the tour's current stage design.
The gorilla hashtag refers to the roaring simian backdrop Marshall's toured with so far, which appeared in a photo attached to the tweet (shown above). Not that the newly ebullient indie-rock icon needs the stage dressing. As Steve Kendall noted in his excellent Cat Power profile, her Essential-stamped new album Sun is so good that it "makes the rest of her work have to stand on its tiptoes and straighten its tie."
Marshall then shared a photo of her arm with what looked to be intravenous ports attached. She explained:
As planned, Cat Power will finish out a North American tour in Los Angeles next week, then wend her way through 13 dates in Europe beginning in Amsterdam and ending in Belgium by mid December.
