OnetimeCanadian Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen’s pop hit “Call Me Maybe” is such a phenomenon, we asked a newbie to liveblog his first listen and tracked down its nine best covers. There’s even a mashup of the ode to picking up a guy on a whim with Rihanna’s “California King Bed” that “maybe” works.

Don’t expect the song to go away anytime soon either. “Call Me Maybe” has reached the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 eight times so far this year, according to Billboard, officially matching Gotye and Kimbra’s duet “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Moreover, Jepsen’s appearance on the latest sugar-sweet Owl City single, “Good Time,” is perched at the No. 15 spot.

This all means that, alongside Gotye, this year Jepsen has bested the No. 1 streaks of the latest singles by fun., Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, LMFAO and Adele. It will be a while before Jepsen is somebody that we used to know.
